The Inauguration Ceremony |

It was on Saturday afternoon, on
April 17th, 1999. There were hundreds
of guests into Villa Arbusto garden for the
inauguration ceremony of
Pithecusae's Archaeological Museum.
Among the guests
there were Senators Salvatore Lauro and Eugene
Donise; President of Campania Region Andrea Losco;
Regional Council Giuseppe Scalera; the Mayors of
island of Ischia.
Among the scholars there were: sir John Boardman
from Oxford University, Alain Pasquier from the

Louvre Museum, Wolf Dieter
Helmeyer from the Pergamon Musem in Berlin, Gloria Olcese, a
researcher at the Berliner Museum; General Manager of the
Ministry of Culture of the Greek Republic Yoannis Tzedakis;
Paul Zanker from Milan University; ancient history experts
such as Piero Orlandini and Marcello Gigante; Fausto Zevi from
Rome University.
Moreover there were George Buchner; Archaeological Supervisor
for the Provinces of Naples and Caserta
Stefano De Caro; Director of
Pithecusae's Archaeological Museum
Costanza Gialanella; Mayor of Lacco Ameno Domenico De Siano;
Scientific Secretary of the museum Giovanni
Castagna.

Then there were
Supervising restorers and consultants, museum staff and
Buchner’s contributors Giosuè Ballirano and Giuseppe
Simonelli.
There were also engineer and architect Maurizio De
Stefano, renovation designer planner of Villa Arbusto,
Saint Restituta Church rector
Pietro
Monti
and journalist Luigi
Necco.
During the ceremony there were many speeches.
Sir John Boardman presented the book "Euboica" which
collects the proceedings of an international meeting of
1996. |

Father Pietro
Monti
blessed the guests and Villa
Arbusto complex "a worthy construction for several
Mediterranean peoples archaeological findings".
Mayor Domenico De Siano stressed the importance of the event
due to the engagement of previous Town Administrations. Then
the mayor confered honorary citizenship on archaeologist
George Buchner.
There was also a moment of emotion, when an artistic memorial
tablet, dedicated to the unforgettable Vincenzo Mennella, was
discovered. This man had been Mayor of Lacco Ameno for 40
years and strongly he believed in the socioeconomic value of
the museum |
