Saint
Restituta's Feast |
|
|
Saint Restituta's Feast is on May from 16th to
18th. Saint’s wooden statue goes through the town and also by
sea. It is a rich dressed and painted statue with many bracelets
and necklaces that people offer to the saint.
Streets also are beautiful because there are many wonderful
lights and fires. Many people enjoy this feast, especially
tourists.
Is it a legend or a real story?
In 284 young Restituta was flagellated in Africa.
Then she was |
|
 |
|
taken in boat without oars and sails, loaded with
tow, and then it was burnt. But Restituta’s body did not burn.
Then an Angel appeared and his wings pushed the boat towards
Saint Montano Bay. So there was a new scent and on sand St.
Restituta’s lily bloomed. |
|
|
|
Furthermore at the beginning of 17th
century Turks went in the church where St Restituta’s
statue was exposed and broke it. Then they jumped on the
bell tower and stole bells. They loaded them on their
ships, but a strong wind blew. So sailors threw out the
bells. From hills people saw a particular event and
swore: we will go and find our bells. When the tempest
ended they tried our bells, but without a good result.
