The "Palio di Sant'Anna"

Every year on July 26th it is celebrated the Feast on the Saint Ann Rocks in the espanse of water between the Aragonese Castle and the rocks, at the foot of the Tower of Michelangelo.
This Feast derives from an age-old custom, because St Ann is an important figure of island folklore. This feast was born in 1932, but it was interrupted during the Second World War; after it was revived. And although the changeability of the times, nowadays it conserves

its wealth and above all its charming poetry.

Among hundreds of berthed or wandering boats in the roadstead, thousands of people on the rocks or on the old Aragonese bridge enjoy for hours the more and more majestic and adornd boats, inspired to the history and traditions of Ischia. Then fireworks illuminate the Castle and the Tower of Michelangelo. So also tourists enjoy this beautiful performance.
And with passing of the years, thanks to the Administration, the feast involves not only all the municipalities of the island, but Procida and other sea localities of the gulf.

Some years ago was born the Palio di Sant’Anna: every municipality takes part
with a boat and wins the most characteristic boat.
