Saint Alexander's Feast

Pro-loco "Sant’Alessandro" is a cultural association which was born at Ischia in 1981. Every year on August 26th, in occasion of St Alex bishop’s festivity, Pro-loco Sant’Alessandro" organizes a historical customs show with two hundred figurants, who leave from the Aragonese Castle and go through the main roads of Ischia. The Greek colonizers, who at Ischia founded  “Pithecusa” in the 8th century BC, open the procession. There are also the Renaissance  

Court with Victoria Colonna and Ferrante D'Avalos, king Carl III and king Ferdinand IV of Bourbon, Gioacchino Murat and king Ferdinand II.
The procession ends with the typical customs of several ages and social ranks of the island.  Figurants represent traditional activities of the people with inhabitants
  of country houses and sea villages. There are peasants given to the production of wine; women who carry the most important wines; sailors who carry fishes in the traditional hampers; children with hampers of fruit and vegetables... 
Furthermore Pro-loco "S.Alessandro" has promoted and organized twinships with Italian and foreign Countries cultural associations such as: "Mammuttones" from Nuoro, "Giullari" from Minturno, "Folk Groups" from Valle di Non and Montone, "Grazielle " from Procida, “Sbandieratori" from Cava dei Tirreni, “Arte e Costumi Marinesi" from Marino, "Gruppo" from Itaca.
